Crescent Past Pupil Advocates for Life-Changing Medical Research on Capitol Hill
The Crescent College Past Pupils Union is delighted to see past pupil Donald McDonnell representing the importance of scientific research and innovation at the highest levels of public policy in the United States.
Recently, Donald spent the day on Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C. as a guest of PhRMA and Menarini-Stemline, sharing his experiences with senators, members of Congress and congressional staff.
During his visit, Donald highlighted the critical role that federally funded university research plays in developing innovative medicines. He also shared the remarkable story behind the development of elacestrant, a treatment for patients with metastatic breast cancer, which emerged from more than 30 years of research conducted in his laboratory.
Reflecting on the experience, Donald described the opportunity to explain how long-term investment in scientific research can lead to life-changing medical breakthroughs for patients around the world.
His visit serves as a powerful reminder of the global impact that Crescent past pupils continue to make across a wide range of fields, including science, medicine, education, business and public service.
The Crescent College Past Pupils Union congratulates Donald on this significant achievement and thanks him for championing the value of research, innovation and public engagement on an international stage.
We look forward to following his continued contributions to scientific discovery and healthcare advancement.
