Death of past pupil, Prof. Noel Mulcahy

The death has occurred of Noel Mulcahy, past pupil of the Sacred Heart College, The Crescent from 1943 to 1948. He played on the Senior Rugby team in 1948.

Noel had a distinguished career. He studied Engineering in UCD. His early career was with Radio Eireann and SPS Technologies in Shannon. He was the Assistant Director-General of the Irish Management Institute 1966 – 77, Senator 1997 – 81, Dean of Engineering and Science – NIHE Limerick 1982-89, Executive Vice President – University of Limerick 1989-95, Emeritus Professor of Industrial Strategy 1995-2019. He was Chairman of Comhairle na Gaeilge and Acting Chairman of the National Council of Educational Awards. One of Noel’s biggest achievements was as Chair of the 1966 Steering Committee on Technical Education, which provided blueprint for the Regional Technical Colleges (now called Institutes of Technology).
