The death has occurred of Desmond (Des) O’Malley (attended Crescent 1946-57).
He was a solicitor by profession and was TD for Limerick East from 1968 to 2002.
He was a cabinet minister for eleven years in the period 1970 -1992 ,serving as Minister for Justice, Industry and Commerce, Energy, Tourism and Trade. He was founder and leader of the Progressive Democrat party from 1986 to 1993.
Des was a great supporter of Old Crescent rugby club and the Crescent College Comprehensive school.
He was awarded the Roll of Honour award from the Crescent College Past Pupils Union.
